World News 2013 - Opening of Berlin's new international airport delayed again
World News 2013
The German capital's new Berlin-Brandenburg international airport is heading for disaster. Originally scheduled to open in 2011, then in June last year, the planned opening date of October 2013 was again pushed back to 2014 or later as technical problems continue.
Mayor Klaus Wowereit has announced his resignation as chairman of the airport's supervisory board. But for the opposition in Berlin's state parliament this is not enough.
Critics say the costly problems of the prestige project are making a laughing stock of the German capital and even harming Germany's reputation.
